This project is multi leveled and tiered. HBC serves as the lead organization for communications and materials coordination for National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. This national community mobilization project for Black Americans has four focal points: (1) get Blacks educated about HIV/AIDS in their local communities; (2) get Blacks tested for HIV so they can know their status regularly; (3) get Blacks involved in local efforts around leading organizations and participating in opportunities to engage local citizens around the epidemic and foster new leadership; and (4) get Blacks testing or already tested positive for HIV into care and treatment. This project was started in 1999 by five community based organizations funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. HBC's Chief Executive Officer LaMont "Montee" Evans has had the opportunity to serve as the lead for six years.

In addition, HBC has developed The Phoenix Rising Project which is a community mobilization and leadership development project focused on getting community stakeholders and networks of Black Americans involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Black America.
